Savor Lodge · stage 1 〈One page of pause〉

One page of pause — the way you stay

It was not the destination that was wrong. The shape of the day was was probably tighter than usual only. Change the way you stay before you change the place, and you can rest close to home.

01

First we measure what you can do now

We look at what is currently blocking your rest. What comes out here decides what to fix first.

Who usually plans the itinerary Often the planning itself has already become work.
How many places do you visit in a day If you've had a day that was nothing but travelling, you're closer to that end.
Do you go straight back to work the day after you return This is what makes the biggest difference to recovery.

02

Five principles for planning a trip that rests you

These are not principles for choosing a place. The shape of the dayis what these principles settle. They hold just as well close to home.

01 Two a day at most Principle 01

One in the morning, one in the afternoon. Nothing more goes in.

Why More than three and travelling becomes the day's main work. The spare time may look wasted, but That empty time is where recovery happensit is.

02 Get the decisions done in advance Principle 02

Where to eat and when to set out Before you leave Settle it in advance. Two of each is enough.

Why In an unfamiliar place every decision costs more than usual. Choosing once you are there is what tires you most.

03 Cut down the travel Principle 03

Better than one far-off place A day somewhere nearis better. Over two hours each way and travelling is that day's itinerary.

Standard Keep the round trip under a quarter of your waking hours that day.

04 Decide in advance what to leave out Principle 04

Places you need not go Before you leave Settle on one.

Why Try to cut things once you are there and the sunk cost stops you. The feeling that you must see it all, having spent money and time, is the biggest block to rest.

05 Leave the day after you return empty Principle 05

Work the day you get back and the whole trip becomes work. Clearing a day is part of planning the tripit is.

If you can't clear it At the very least, bring your return time forward. Arriving late at night costs you two days' worth the next day.

An example day

Not a timetable but Shape. The key is not what you do at what hour but how many items you put into a day.

TierThe shape of the dayWhat to settle before you leave
ASchedule Oneonly. Everything else stays clear. Time spent at the lodging counts as itinerary. Two places to eat · one time to set out · One place you won't go
BOne in the morning · one in the afternoon. Two hours left clear between. Two places to eat · two times to set out · one place you won't go · one place for if it rains
COne in the morning · one in the afternoon + Half a day doing nothingis put in on purpose. All of the above + the day after you return Clearing the schedule

04

Just keep this rule

  • Don't look for more good places. What you need now is not adding but taking away.
  • Don't fill up the time left over. Put anything into those two clear hours and the principle collapses.
  • Don't move for the sake of a photo. Decide in advance what to capture and the day becomes a shoot.
  • Start with somewhere near. A day trip is enough to test whether the principle holds. Experimenting far away is expensive when it fails.
  • You do the booking and the paying. We arrange neither lodging nor transport. Travel is an area where Korea's Tourism Promotion Act requires registration, and we are not registered.

If you have tried it once

Next is 〈A map of rest〉 — a guide to quiet places in Korea with a short journey, sorted by season, with the ones good to visit alone marked separately. Here too, you do the booking yourself.
